Photo Tours & Workshops
Welcome to Our Workshops & Photo Tours
Our small group photography workshops are built around time in the field, learning through experience, and being in the right place when wildlife and conditions come together.
Each tour combines photography, wildlife observation, and local knowledge while exploring some of British Columbia’s most remarkable coastal environments. Changing light, weather, tides, and wildlife behaviour are all part of the experience, and part of learning how to create stronger images in the field.
Whether you’re an experienced photographer looking to refine your approach or simply want more confidence behind the camera, you’ll have personalized guidance without feeling rushed or crowded.
These tours are about more than coming home with photographs. They’re about slowing down, watching wildlife behaviour unfold, understanding the environment around you, and enjoying the experience of being there.
Learn. Explore. Photograph. Experience the coast.

Experience one of British Columbia's most extraordinary wildlife spectacles as hundreds of bald eagles gather to feed in the powerful tidal waters of the Yuculta and Arran Rapids.
Join professional wildlife photographer and Coastal Photo Tours founder Stan Novotny for an unforgettable photography adventure through the Discovery Islands, where dramatic coastal landscapes, incredible wildlife encounters, and world-class photography opportunities come together.
Each spring and early summer, Pacific hake move through the narrow channels of the Discovery Islands. As powerful tidal currents surge through the rapids, these fish can become trapped in turbulent water and rise to the surface, creating an extraordinary feeding opportunity for bald eagles.
The eagles know exactly when to arrive.
What follows can be spectacular. Eagles dive from the sky, snatch fish from the surface, compete with one another, and sometimes consume their catch in midair. With dozens or even hundreds of eagles gathering during peak activity, photographers have opportunities to capture remarkable behaviour in a truly wild setting.
Our workshop dates are carefully selected around the predicted tidal currents to give participants the best opportunities to witness and photograph this natural phenomenon.
